NCCAP
Board Update
By
Kimberly A. Keegan, ACC
As
my journey as President continues I realize more and
more each and every day, how much work the National
Certification Council for Activity Professionals Board
of Directors, the NCCAP office and all of our committees
and volunteers do for the activities profession in relation
to certification and professionalism. I have outlined
just some of the tasks and projects that we have been
working on since the last quarter.
NCCAP has reviewed the CMS interpretive guidelines to
surveyors for F tag 249, Activities and Activity Directors.
We have offered several suggestions for the draft guidance
to surveyors of nursing homes regarding the qualifications
and certification of the activities directors. As always
we are looking out for the well-being of our profession
and professionals.
The re-engineering project to bring up to date the Modular
Education Program for Activity Professionals is almost
complete. Training on the new program will be commencing
soon. For those of you in the Wisconsin area the dates
have been set and training will be September 13
and 14. Other training locations will be available later
on in the year. For more information view the announcement
page on the NCCAP.org website. Information will also
be mailed to the current pre-approved instructors and
those individuals that meet the academic requirement
of the BA/ACC in the surrounding states.
Hopefully you will take advantage of the salary survey
on page 3, in this issue of the NCCAP News. This voluntary
survey will help answer that much asked question that
continues to surface on the web site, what is the average
wage of an activity director. Of course the results
will vary depending on those that complete the survey
and to what extent the survey is completed. Please complete
the survey and send it in so that we can post the results
for the certified members.
Paula Miller, NCCAP Nomination Chair, is working hard
to recruit nominees to fill two board of director seats
for the 2005-2008 term. She has mailed information to
your state contact, asking them to put the ad in your
state newsletter, or on your states' website. The information
has also been posted on the NCCAP.org website. Please
read her article on page 3, Nominations, "We Make
A Difference" of this newsletter.
Are you looking for a rewarding experience? Have you
been wanting to get involved? Read Laurie Kloeppers'
article on the cover about volunteering. NCCAP exists
from the help and support of many volunteers. Get involved
today!
Does
your certificate have the needed information? NCCAP
can proudly say that our volunteers review 100% of the
applications. These reviewers have been trained to look
over the certificates submitted to make sure that all
of the appropriate information is in place.
We
are looking for the following: name of sponsor or sponsoring
association, name of participant, title of educational
session, date of educational session, location of session,
clock hours, instructors name and instructors credentials,
and a signature of the sponsor or the instructor. There
is a sample certificate of attendance in each certification
standards packet, and a copy posted on the NCCAP.org
website. If in doubt about the certificate that you
receive from the program attended or if the certificate
does not include the content listed above, attach to
the certificate a copy of the advertisement brochure
or explanation that contains the missing information.
For facility in-services, send a copy of the sample
certificate with the in-service director's signature
or a sign-in sheet with all of the required information
listed previously. As the old saying goes, better to
be safe than sorry. NN
