Where
Would We Be Without Volunteers?
By
Laurie Kloepper, ADC
Special Projects Chair
In
the Fall of 2003 I received a phone call asking if I
would consider running for the National Certification
Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP) Executive
Board of Directors. As a 19-year veteran of the activity
profession I know what it means to ask people for help
and we all know where our activity departments/pro-grams
would be without volunteers. We also know the time and
commitment volunteering requires. I was already President
of our high school Booster Club and Vice President of
the Kansas Activity Directors Association, not to mention
the parent of a middle school student and a high school
senior. Did I have enough energy and time management
skills to volunteer for one more thing? That question
required some serious thought. But as I thought about
it, I remembered my earlier statement, where would we
be without volunteers?
When
I gave my position statement to NCCAP I stated that
I would bring enthusiasm and commitment to the board
if elected. Thanks to you I was elected and am now the
Special Projects Chairperson. Volunteers are desperately
needed and so it is with great enthusiasm that I ask
you to consider volunteering for NCCAP.
NCCAP
currently has 23 wonderful volunteers for the 5800+
members. Initial certification, certification renewals,
and pre-approvals require volunteers to review applications.
We know there is always room for help and we have all
heard the saying "many hands make light work."
Why not put that statement into practice? I know those
23 volunteers would appreciate another hand. Contact
the NCCAP office or myself at kloepper63@earthlink if
you are interested, we look forward to hearing from
you soon! NN
