Heide
has 16 years experience working in the geriatric recreation
field. She began her career as a volunteer in an ALC
(alternate level of care) unit at her local hospital
when she was 14 years old as her grandmother was struggling
with Alzheimer's disease, and has not left the field
since. She has recently gone through the training to
be a teacher of the MEPAP 2nd Edition, and is currently
assisting Activities Assistance as a guest instructor
in Niagara Falls. Heide works full-time as the Director
of Activities for Our Lady of Peace in Lewiston, New
York and she works as a free-lance consultant for Activites
in the Western New York region. She has served as Vice
President for the Western New York Association of Activites
Professionals since 2004, Corresponding Secretary for
the Activities Association for Leisure Time Personnel
in NYS, INC. since October 2005, and Western New York
State contact representative for NAAP since 2005. This
October, Heide will serve as the conference chairperson
for the 2006 AALTPNY annual state conference. Heide
does have a life outside of activities as resident director/performer
for the Grand-Master Theatre company in Lancaster, NY
and has performed on many stages throughout the Buffalo/Niagara
Falls region, she has also made appearances as "Jazzy"
the clown. Heide resides in Niagara Falls, NY with her
husband Chad and an old 18 lb. hairy cat named Sassy.
Heide is extremely excited to serve the NCCAP Board
as Special Projects Officer, and looks forward to assisting
with the advancement of the field of Activities. She
thanks the membership for giving her this opportunity.
