Completing
Tasks
By
Laurie Kloepper, ADC
The
dictionary cites the definition of professional as the
following: "engaged in a profession or engaging
in as a profession or means of livelihood."
As an activities professional, what do you do to engage
others in this profession? Do you assist on the local
or state level? Do you set the example for others in
this profession? Do you offer to help others with obtaining
their certification?
Since
ADC Track 5 was announced, I have had the privilege
of assisting several activity directors with this task.
It's simple and really hasn't taken much time. I simply
ask them WHEN they think the will have a certain step
completed, we decide on a date and then I call them
to make sure its completed. We all like to complete
goals and this simply helps them stay on task. I usually
give them about two weeks before I call them back. I
have had to call people several times and not once has
anyone been angry with me for "bugging" them.
I think deep down inside they know they need that extra
nudge.
My
greatest joy is when I receive the call from the NCCAP
office alerting me that they have received their certification
and I give them a call congratulating them. Each and
every time I hear the squeal and YYEEEESSSSS! on the
other end of the line it gives me goose bumps and makes
me realize I'm doing the right thing.
As
members of NCCAP we are all in the position to make
this happen for others. Wont you take advantage of it
too? NN
