Nominations Chair, NCCAP
The Joint Commission on
Accreditation of Healthcare Organization
(JCAHO) held its Seventh Annual
Invitation Forum for Liaison Network
Organization on June 16 - 17 in Oakbrook
Terrace, Illinois. There were almost 70
different accreditation organizations at
the forum, including NCCAP. JCAHO will
have new standards for the year 2000.
In long term care, there
will be a Comprehensive Accreditation
Manual for Long Term Care (CAMLTC). The
manual has added two new seta of
standards, the first relating to oral
health assessments and the other to
pharmacy.
The Long Term Care (LTC)
process will be focusing on two key
areas: credentialing and standards-based
issues related to the recent HCFA report
to Congress. This includes pressure
sores, falls, weight loss and
dehydration. JCAHO is currently revising
what is called leadership
standards. This will affect manuals
in Health Care Networks and hospitals and
will be effective January 1, 2000. The
purpose of the revision is to clarify the
difference between clinical practice
guidelines and utilization management or
utilization reviews. Should you like more
information, Joint Commission is on the
Web at www.jcaho.org. NN
