A Letter from The
Board...Certified
Activity Professional(s),
As we begin this new
millennium, we wanted to take this
opportunity to share with you some of the
exciting things happening with your
National Certification Council for
Activity Professionals (NCCAP).
The personnel committee has
been actively looking for an
administrator since the resignation of
the former Executive Director in February
of last year. This committee has reviewed
the job description as well as the 5 year
strategic plan and the By-laws of the
association to determine what is needed
for NCCAP and the certified members.
Included in this plan is the
increased visibility and awareness to the
health care community regarding the need
for crednetialing, encouraging the states
that do not yet recognize NCCAP
certification as a qualifier to run an
activity program to incorporate NCCAP
into their regulations, and to establish
additional contacts with other regulatory
bodies to maintain credibility.
The committees have all
reviewed and updated their procedures for
reviewing thecertification files,
certification renewals and continuing
education (pre-approvals) applications.
This allowed the processes to move more
quickly and accurately, with an average
turn around time of about 4 - 6 weeks,
rather than the previous 10 - 12 weeks.
The number of certified
individuals has increased since March
1999 by nearly 500+. This will also
increase the awareness to administration
of the need for establishedcriteria and
standards.
The NCCAP website has proved
to be a very beneficial tool for the
members as well as those interested in
becoming certified. To date we have had
over 24,000 hits on our site. Also
members have been able to access the
NCCAP materials, i.e., .standards,
pre-approval application directly without
having to go through the office in
Virginia Beach.
The board continues to be
committed to excellence on your behalf,
and we consider it an honor to serve as
your elected officers. We welcome your
comments and encourage you to join us at
the NAAP Conference, in Colorado
Springs., CO, April 12 -15, 2000. For
more information about the conference
contact the NAAP office directly at
(865)429-0717.
For the latest updates and
educational information be looking for
our next issue of the NCCAP News.
Sincerely,
Your NCCAP Board of Directors
