Optional
Pre-Approval Process ChangesCindy
Bradshaw, ACC
NCCAP Administrator
After much review, and
having begun the re-engineering of the
course(s), course materials, training
process etc., the formerly optional
pre-approval for instructors is what will
be changing. EFFECTIVE July 1, 2001,
NCCAP will no longer accept ANY 90 hour
course toward the Academic Education
component of certification unless it has
been taught by an NCCAP pre-approved
instructor.
This does NOT affect any
courses taught previous to this date!
This does NOT effect anyone already
having a pre-approval number!
This is having those
qualified instructors that are teaching
the NAAP/NCCAP materials submit their
materials for pre-approval, for
consistency and accountability to the
student and to the members. This will
lend toward a more standard guideline in
which future students will be taught the
same materials.
Some examples of problems
that have been identified with the
current standards of not requiring a
pre-approval number include:
- Calls from students
who took a 90 hour course from an
instructor using the NAAP/NCCAP
Basic Education Course
heading, who were not
told they needed to also complete
an additional 90 hours of
practicum. If the instructor had
been a pre-approved instructor,
they would have had to submit the
outline on how they were going to
present their 90 hours of
practicum assignments.
- Applications from
students who submit over 200
hours of continuing education,
none of which had the necessary
documentation required by NCCAP
standards, (i.e., name, # of
hrs., signature, etc.), of which
included the registration for a
90 hour course, but included no
certificate of completion.
The pre-approval process
requires that the instructor submit to
NCCAP the certificate that will be
distributed to the students upon
completion of the course.
The above are only two
examples of many that have been shared to
show you the types of things that helped
determine the need for consistency and
credibility with these courses that are
so invaluable to the growth and education
of activity professionals.
In the event that you are
qualified and are not currently a
pre-approved instructor, you will need to
contact the NCCAP office for an
application. If you are aware of
individuals who meet the qualifications
but are not in the NCCAP database as they
are not certified with NCCAP, please
forward their names and addresses to me
so that a letter may be sent to them as
well informing them of these upcoming
changes.
The calls received to date
have been very supportive and favorable
of this change; any comments or concerns
can be directed to Cindy Bradshaw at
