Remembering
Where We Came From
By
Cindy Bradshaw, ACC/NCCAP Executive Director
I
was recently privileged to attend and speak at the Coalition
of Activity Professionals (COAP) conference in North
Carolina. What a dynamic group of people! Although I
could share stories of several things learned at this
particular conference, I would like to highlight what
one certified individual said to those participating
in the event. This woman was asked by COAP Executive
Director, Kathy Wright Moore, ACC, to share with the
group why her certification meant so much to her. She
answered without hesitation that it meant the world
to her because she earned it. She had worked for it,
worked hard at saving the money to pay to attend the
workshops and seminars to gather her hours, had vested
numerous years of experience, and had literally collected
change to afford the cost of becoming certified. All
of which she shared with the group, she would do again;
as she was worth it, she was proud of it, and she encouraged
everyone else there to take the challenge and do the
same. Ms. Wright Moore reiterated these thoughts by
setting an association goal of encouraging 500 nationally
certified members by the end of 2006. North Carolina
has just over a hundred at this time. Knowing her drive
and commitment to excellence, along with the support
and dedication of the other members, this goal can be
achieved. It was such a wonderful experience, to be
reminded of the grassroots, the "why NCCAP was
formed", in such a rewarding and uplifting way.
