NCCAP
BOARD UPDATE
By
Kimberly A. Keegan, BS, ACC, TRD
In November 2004, the NCCAP Board of Directors met for
their fall meeting, giving the six directors from across
the country and our Executive Director an opportunity
to come face to face to review reports, discuss committee
work, review the budget, make decisions, and more. During
the year the Board and Executive Director communicate
via e-mail and telephone to get our tasks completed.
Each board member has a specific role as well as serving
on various committees.
Salary Survey - over 120 surveys have been received
and are in the process of being entered into the computer
so that the data can be utilized to derive the various
pieces of information submitted. I am hoping to present
this information and data at our Annual Spring meeting
of Certified members along with an article in the next
issue of NCCAP News.
Nominations - ballots are out and the deadline is fast
approaching to fill the two seats that will become vacant
in April 2005.
Bylaws Proposal - along with the nomination ballot was
a proposal to amend our bylaws. Currently the bylaws
state that three elected members of the Board of Directors
must have a BS degree. A recommendation was made by
the Board to change this wording to "preferred".
Volunteers - several of you responded to the article
written by Laurie Kloepper our Special Projects chair
asking for new volunteers to help with committee work.
As you may or may not be aware NCCAP exists from the
help and support of many volunteers. We can proudly
say that 100% of our applications are reviewed.
NCCAP Track 5 - NCCAP has opened a window of opportunity
for two years - January 2005 through December 2006.
When the MEPAP and other changes came into place it
was realized that a window of opportunity was not given
to persons allowing them to get their requirements in
so that they could be certified. In realizing that the
word did not get out, Track 5 was created. Individuals
must have had a basic activity course between 1991 and
2001, have 6 years (12,000 hours) of current activity
experience, and have 30 hours of continuing education,
6 of which are activity documentation specific. We are
spreading the word through our State Representatives,
website, and now through you.
NCCAP 20th Anniversary - the Board is looking at ideas
to commemorate and celebrate the 20th Anniversary of
NCCAP, which will be celebrated in 2006 in Reno, Nevada.
Ideas and suggestions can be given to any of the board
members or office staff.
Manual - Special Projects Chair Laurie Kloepper, is
working on updating a resource manual for the NCCAP
office, which will contain each state's regulatory agency,
address, phone number, website, e-mail, contact name,
and more.
MEPAP Training - MEPAP orientation trainings are being
scheduled around the country. It is exciting that all
instructors will now be on the same page, so to speak.
Therefore, a person in New York will receive the same
information as a person in California.
NCCAP News - let us know what information we can provide
in our newsletter to assist you. What articles, data,
and news can we write about for you? You can send us
your comments and ideas via our e-mail addresses listed
in this newsletter.
Instructor Contest - all instructors take note - the
instructor who has the greatest percentage of students
that become NCCAP certified will have their pre-approval
renewal fee waived for 2 years and be recognized in
NCCAP News. That's right! If your students become NCCAP
certified with your help and guidance then you could
win the contest. Make sure your name appears on their
application as having helped them in their endeavor.
At the end of the calendar year the person who has the
biggest percentage will win.
Beverly Morris Scholarship - to date one recipient has
received the scholarship so to attend an educational
workshop. This scholarship, named after the first certified
ADC from New York, assists certified members in a financial
bind. It is given out in August and March of each year.
Interested individuals need to complete an application
form, include a copy of the brochure detailing the educational
offering along with two letters of recommendation. A
committee reviews all submissions and determinations
are then made.
Legislative Matters - NCCAP continues to keep a watchful
eye out on items pertaining to the Activity Profession.
Comments were submitted regarding the draft changes
to F tag 249 "Guidance to Surveyors". NCCAP
continues to be a proponent of certified activity professionals
across the country with various federal agencies.
HIPAA Position Statement - NCCAP will not give out personal
information regarding certified members that has not
been previously granted in writing by you, the certified
member. As ongoing policy, when a phone inquiry is received,
only the status of the certified member is confirmed
or denied. The certified member prior to any information
being discussed with supervisors or others must receive
written permission.
Certified members with status changes (ie. name changes,
address, phone number or e-mail address) must make prior
notifications in writing.
NAAP - once again NCCAP will have a booth at the NAAP
Conference as well as sponsor the State Contact Breakfast.
Stop by and see us to discuss level changes, purchase
pins, and discuss volunteer opportunities and more.
