Increasing
the Number of Certified Professionals Around the World
By
Kimberly A. Keegan, BS, TRD, ACC, NCCAP President
As
we embark into the new year we make many resolutions
for ourselves and sometimes for others. As National
Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP)
president one of my wishes is to increase the number
of certified professionals around the world. Being certified
not only lends a sense of pride to individuals as it
shows that you have met various educational and experiential
standards, but it complies with Federal Law in that
an activity department must be directed by a "qualified
professional." Certified persons add to our lobbying
base as well as assure administrators and surveyors
that you have met certain professional standards.
We
at NCCAP need your help. You may know someone at work
or in your local or State associations who are not certified.
You can explain the benefits or reasons that one should
become certified as well as ask them to check out additional
information on our web site at www.nccap.org. Our web
site has a listing of instructors for the MEPAP program
and listings of State Representatives. It has explanations
and applications. It is truly a wealth of information.

If
he or she wants they can also contact their State Representative,
a board member or speak to one of our awesome office
staff at (757) 552-0653.
Won't
you help NCCAP and your profession achieve this goal!
It is a win-win situation for everyone!
The
Coalition of Activity Professionals in North Carolina
(COAP-NC) has issued a challenge to the other 49 states
to see which state will have the greatest increase in
those who become certified. *Refer to the Summer/Fall
issue of NCCAPNews - archived on the www.nccap.org site.
