Reflections from a Reviewer: Helpful Hints for Recertification

By Nancy Best, ACC

Is it time to renew your NCCAP certification and you dread the thought of listing your clock hours on the form? What can I use, how do I list them, and how many In-service hours may I count? Just a few questions that go through your mind. Hopefully, this article will answer these and many more to make it easy for the applicant and the volunteer reviewer.

FIRST read the guidelines provided for you to submit to NCCAP. It will guide you through the steps for you to follow. Make a copy of the form to use as a worksheet and submit the original.

Let me offer some clarification for frequently misconstrued instructions:

1. You may submit only 20% of In-House In-services. If you need 20 hrs, 4 hrs are allowable, 30 hrs 6 hrs are allowable etc.

2. Work place In-service, if content is applicable, at least 30 minutes in length.

3. Send only the number of hours required. If it is 40 hours for ACC, submit 40: not 110. If you have doubts concerning a seminar, submit enough extra hours to cover those hours.

4. If you attend a conference/seminar that is more than a day and you accrue 17.5 hours (i.e. State Conference) combine the hours on your form and send a copy of the Certificate. You do not have to list April 4th (6.5 hrs), April 5th (7.5 hrs), or April 6th (3.5 hrs) individually. Just April 4-6, 2007 (17.5 hrs) as you will attach the certificate for verification.

5. Check the date of the seminar to your recertification date. Outdated clock hours will not count. If your recertification date is 5-1-07, they must be in the window of 5-1-05 to 5-1-07.

6. For college credits send copy of transcripts (grade reports are not accepted).

7. An applicant sent a renewal form in and listed 30 clock hours on the total line and only sent 1 certificate for 5 hours. Make sure what you send is what is listed on your renewal.

I always look forward to the NAAP Conference in April, it enables me to visit with o1d friends and make new ones. If you have any questions contact me at pancesl@hotmall.com NN
