Continuing Education Opportunities

by Pat Barnes, ADC
NCCAP Treasurer

Do you seem to be always looking for education opportunities in order to keep your certification? Here are some suggestions that may be helpful.

When reading your local newspaper, do you scan articles that a local department store is advertising relative to offering information about holiday crafts, learning to draw, time management, tai chi, etc.? How about advertisements describing programming at your local Parks and Recreation or local hobby stores? These learning opportunities are considered personal enrichment and if they are of value to you in your job, then there is a possibility they can be used as continuing education if they meet the following criteria:

  • Must be at least 60 minutes long
  • Must be taken in a group setting with a leader and discussion

These classes may account for 20% of your total continuing education when you apply for certification or recertification when they meet the above. Be aware that most of these will not provide an actual Certificate of Attendance, so be prepared with your own. Have all the necessary required information filled out in advance so that the instructor needs to only sign and include her credentials/qualifications to teach the class. NN
