Different Learning
Styles for Different Peopleby
John Collins, CTRS/ACC
NCCAP Treasurer and Chair, Advanced
Technology Committee
As an educator, consultant
and one of the NCCAP Board of Directors,
I truly understand the concept that there
are different learning styles for
different people. In teaching classes, I
take this concept deeply into
consideration to meet the needs of my
students. However, as the Chair for the
Advanced Technology Committee, I can
assure you that much discussion has been
done to consider all the different
learning modalities available in
todays fast-paced technological
society.
Many individuals learn
better when materials are presented to
them and then have the opportunity to ask
the instructor questions for
clarification. Others learn better when
they read materials on their own. As a
credentialing body, NCCAP has looked into
the concept of Advanced Technology. NCCAP
is now accepting correspondence, home
study, videos, computer- and
Internet-generated courses, and others as
continuing education. However each of
these must have a NCCAP pre-approval
number in order for it to be accepted by
NCCAP.
If you know of any provider
who is offering any of these types of
courses/seminars but are not yet
pre-approved, contact the office and give
them the name and address of the
provider. NCCAP will send them a letter
explaining the pre-approval process so
they may consider obtaining a
pre-approval status to help meet the
requests of individuals in need of
continuing education. NN
