NCCAP PRESIDENT'S ANNUAL REPORT (2002)
By Pat Barnes,
ACC, President
Overall,
we have had a very positive year. The office operations have
run very smoothly. Our Executive Director has continued to streamline
some of the procedures and has improved the day-to-day processing
of applications and other forms within the office. Recognizing
the need to improve communications and provide the Executive
Director with the means to give technically better presentations,
we have purchased a laptop computer and replaced a worn out
printer. The telephone system that was installed last year is
meeting the needs of everyone and does allow for a "real
person" option.
Review of changes/actions for the year.
- The content of information on our website has continued to
expand and improve and our ability to keep it current has also
improved. This was a result of hiring Rick Boyer our new web
master. He has been very responsive to our requests and proactive
with suggestions.
- We stayed
within our projected budget and ended the year in the black.
Our Executive Director has become proficient with Quick Books
and provides us with detailed monthly statements. Her increased
skill and knowledge of the budget process greatly assisted the
treasurer with tracking funds. While our investments have declined
(some as a result of the market), we still have more than adequate
reserves.
- We developed
and implemented a plan to increase the awareness of NCCAP certification
to all states through a mailing campaign. This increased our
communications with the licensure and regulations departments
of many states.
- The board
accepted the draft of the Standards of Practice, which was officially
voted upon and accepted.
- As a result
of a membership inquiry, we created a new level of membership
for members who have retired. Now, once a person over the age
of 62 retires from the field, it is possible to acknowledge
their certification through a special category of membership.
- The length
of time that a person can be an ADPC was changed to 6 years
to better coincide with the 2-year cycle of renewal timeframes.
- The re-engineering
of the Modular Education Program for Activity Professionals
(MEPAP) process is continuing. Our Executive Director and the
committee have been working hard behind the scenes. Like you,
I look forward to the updated version.
As I end
my two terms of office on the board, this has been a significant
part of my professional life for the past six years, and I take
pride in the accomplishments we have made. I encourage all of
you who have the time and commitment to the mission of NCCAP
to become involved.
While I
will no longer be an official member of the board, be assured
that I will continue to serve as an advocate for qualified and
certified activity professionals. NN
