NCCAP Vice President's Report (2003)
By Kathy
Hughes, ADC, Vice President, NCCAP Board
The past
six years have seen tremendous growth in NCCAP and its services
to the activity profession. We have met and, in some cases,
exceeded individual goals, association goals, and profession
goals.
The www.nccap.org
website is the premier website for activity professionals. We
have approximately 68,000 hits per month from all over the globe.
This factors out to be a lot of activity professionals using
the NCCAP website for information about the activity profession.
The following is available on the website 24 hours a day, 7
days a week:
- All-inclusive
information on certification
- Information on continuing education pre-approval, including
sample certificates for members and potential members
- Pre-approved instructors, continuing education programs, conferences,
and online education programs
- NCCAP standards
- NCCAP newsletters and brochures
Fellow activity professionals view the NCCAP Bulletin Board
an average of 400 times a day. Many are looking for educational
opportunities or the chance to share information about activities
in general. We encourage everyone from activity professionals
to administrators to access our website.
The NCCAP
News, sent to over 6,500 activity professionals, became the
first four-color newsletter for and by activity professionals.
Advertisers have kept the cost of the newsletter to a minimum,
and many companies are waiting to be in the next issue. After
the NCCAP members receive their copy in the mail, the newsletter
is also posted on the website. We are looking forward to being
able to further expand the newsletter in the future.
NCCAP also
prides itself on answering up to 40 e-mails a day concerning
the activity profession. While answering the e-mail is quite
an adventure at times, it is worth giving activity professionals
the opportunity to interact online with a member of the NCCAP
Board of Trustees. Additionally, if there is something wrong
with any part of the website, or if a change in NCCAP procedure
is required, it is brought to our attention immediately.
We have
also begun continuing education online chats for NCCAP clock
hours. This bold new concept will assist many activity professionals
in obtaining their continuing education credits. We are currently
the only association that offers online presentations for activity
professionals that are pre-approved by NCCAP.
In addition,
NCCAP is re-engineering the MEPAP training courses and has offered
educational training for the instructors. In 2004, we will unveil
a new and exciting training course that reflects the standards
of practice for the new millennium. As Vice President, I have
been privileged to be part of this updating process in which
NCCAP has invested time, money, and the expertise of well-known
activity professionals.
At the conference
in Louisville, Kentucky, the NAAP Board requested that the NCCAP
Board carefully consider their recommendation to reflect changes
in the profession in the NCCAP Standards. This recommendation
was incorporated in updating the NCCAP Standards, as was the
requirement of MEPAP Part 1 for all of those seeking to become
NCCAP certified.
I would
like to thank all of you for allowing me to serve the activity
profession. I would also like to thank everyone for contributing
to my professional growth over the past six years. NN
