NCCAP
Board Report (Special Projects)
By
Heide M. Cornell, ACC
2006 - 2007
This
has been a successful year for NCCAP, we have reached
the over 6,000 ceertufied mark, encouraged a bigger
presence at state and association conferences (via Cindy
Bradshaw and the Executive Board Team), and reached
out to administrators in several states to promote higher
standards and certi-fication for activities professionals.
The
office of Special Projects certainly lives up to it's
name in diverse responsibilities, and I have worked
hard with both Cindy Bradshaw, and the remaining NCCAP
officers to better define the responsibilities of this
office.
Projects
I have been working on include converting the MEPAP
2nd Edition Administrative Manual to a more technologically
advanced form via cd-rom. This "computerized"
version of the manual will help instructors provide
the necessary handout and outlines to the MEPAP students
with the "touch of a button". It will also
reduce cost to NCCAP for the creation and transport
of the large "paper-style" manuals currently
being issued. Just to give the current certified members
an idea of what the actual estimated cost savings might
be I took a manual to my local FED-EX Kinko's for pricing
of one copy (totaling 300 pages), 3-hole punched, and
bound in a 3" three ring binder. The cost would
have been about $200. I then asked about the cost to
ship one manual from Niagara Falls to Virginia Beach,
which was around $15 for ground based on weight of the
item. Making the grand total of processing and shipping
ONE administrative manual approximately $215 and change.
This "cost" is reflective in the cost for
training to become a pre-approved MEPAP instructor,
along with the cost of the curriculum manual and the
nine textbooks associated with the training. The cost
of one CD-R was $9.00 and volunteer time to copy the
files. As an activities professional, I know every dime
matters, so with the transcribing of just one manual
to a computerized version, NCCAP may be able to pass
some of the savings on to potential instructors, creating
more interest, and in-turn helping to certify even more
activity professionals nation (now world) wide.
Some
of the other things I have done as the special projects
board member for NCCAP are assisting our president Kathy
Hughes with the on-line chat room, distributing information
about certification, and assisting with the selection
of scholarship recipients for the 2007 NAAP conference
in Columbus Ohio.
I
have enjoyed working with the other board members this
year, and look forward to another successful year with
NCCAP. NN
