"Kansas
Certified Activity Directors" Take the Nation by
Storm
By Susan
Hatcher, ADC / KADA Secretary, District 6 President
About
a year and a half ago NCCAP, and one of the activity
groups in North Carolina named COAP, set a challenge
to Activity Directors nationwide to become "Certified",
the mark of a Quality Activity Professional. NCCAP offered
a temporary window of opportunity with requirements
that included: HS Diploma and/or GED, Completion of
a basic activity course between (1991-2001), 6 years
(12,000 hours) of current activity experience within
the past 10 years and 30 hours of continuing education,
which enabled many individuals in our state to apply.
If the Activity Director met this criterion they began
the application process and submitted all the required
documentation along with the fee to NCCAP.
Once
Certified Activity Directors (ADC), you have to maintain
that certification every 2 years by having 30 hours
continuing education and sending in an application.
Education is the key, and the Kansas Activity Director
Association (KADA) provides conferences and workshops
to assist their members in receiving the necessary components
to maintain that credential, and to pursue their goals
of becoming nationally certified.
I
am proud to announce that Kansas increased the number
of Certified Activity Professionals in the state by
200% and won the contest! The award was presented to
Laurie Kloepper, ADC, KADA President during the 2007
NAAP Conference in Columbus, OH.
