A PREVIEW OF OUR
ADVANCED WEB SITE FOR 2001:
NCCAP.ORG
Celebrationsby

NCCAP Special Projects Trustee
This November
marked the second year that NCCAP.ORG has
served activity professionals all over
the globe. As part of our year-long
celebration, which coincides with our
15th Birthday, we will be making some
changes in our home on The Web. We are
very excited about these changes and hope
that these changes will make it easier
for our members and potential members to
use.
The NCCAP Standards have
been the backbone of our site. You can
check the various certification Tracks as
well as checking to see if the seminar
you would like to attend falls within the
NCCAP Body of Knowledge. You can print
the certification application and a
sample certificate to take with you to
that seminar. All of our standards have
been there for you whenever you have
needed them. We are planning to make them
available for you to print off and
utilize whenever you need them. We are
planning to have them available starting
National Activity Professionals Week,
January 22, 2001. We will be editing our
Course Instructors Listing for our
members benefit.
You will be able to find
only NCCAP pre-approved instructors on
our list. As you know instructors who are
not pre-approved can teach the course,
but you can only apply those credits for
continuing education purposes. We will
only be adding instructors who have NCCAP
pre-approval to teach the courses. Those
who are not pre-approved instructors will
not appear on the website.
We will have available two
bulletin boards for activity
professionals to access. The original one
will experience some fall housekeeping.
Members can still share information, post
job openings and interact with each
other. The second board will be for
seminar, conference and continuing
education postings. This will let our
members find out where they can get
continuing education when its
convenient. Please keep in mind that
anyone can post a continuing education
program on the site, it is up to you to
check references and NCCAP pre-approval
status. We do not endorse any sessions or
speakers. You should also make sure that
the certificates have the required
information and fall within the NCCAP
Body of Knowledge.
You will be able to print
off our NCCAP pre-approval form for our
Advanced Technology and our Course
Instructor application. We will be adding
the Beverly Morris Scholarship
Application online for our members to
apply for scholarship funds for
continuing education.
Many members have requested
a Specialty Track and we will
be conducting an online survey during
National Activity Professionals Week.
Your input will direct the NCCAP Board
and Committees in the new millennium. So
make sure that you stop by January 21
-27, 2001 and let us know what you think.
NCCAP Specialty
Tracks
Members have requested that NCCAP look
into Specialty Tracks to meet the needs
of those activity professionals working
in Retirement Centers, Assisted Living
Facilities, Adult Day Programs, and Adult
Homes. The NCCAP Board will be seeking
input from its members concerning
this issue. We will be placing an online
survey on our website starting January
21, 2001. We will also publish the survey
in the next edition of NCCAP NEWS. The
information that we need will include the
Track and continuing
education requirements for such Specialty
Tracks. Take a moment to fill out our
survey with your ideas and comments. This
will assist us with developing a new AAC,
ADC and ACC Track for those working in
other long term care venues.
HCFA Webcast
The Health Care Financing Administration
held a webcast on September 29, 2000 for
surveyors concerning surveying the
activities department. NCCAP provided the
pre-approval for the webcast and for the
NCCAP members. We were honored to provide
information to our members through our
website for those who were interested in
learning more about the survey process
and activities. That week 13,659 times
our website was utilized and the day of
the broadcast 2,875 times the website was
accessed. We answered over 200 e-mails
the weeks before and after the webcast.
We hope that in the future we can provide
pre-approval so our members can benefit
from webcasts and training online. If you
hear of any offerings, please contact the
provider and let them know that NCCAP has
an Advanced Technology
pre-approval process that will assist you
in your continuing education. NN
