NCCAP
Executive Director Travels to Various State Activity
Association Workshops!
The
NCCAP Executive Director has recently had the privilege
of attending two state association conferences.
Indiana
Association of Activity Professionals (IAAP) in October
2006, was held in Nashville, Indiana. This group was
so excited about NCCAP certification that many individuals
have followed through and applied for their national
certification since the conference. John Rowlett, Glenda
Dearth, and others were recognized for their assistance
and leadership with this organization. Other presentations
on professionalism and highlights of the new guidelines
were also well received.
New
Jersey Activity Professionals Association (NJAPA) in
November 2006 was held in two locations within the state.
What a dynamic group of individuals!
A special recognition was given to Debbie Hommel for
her efforts and leadership in assisting individuals
in maintaining their NCCAP credentials. **Special note
that New Jersey has over 500 nationally certified individuals;
pretty awesome for such a small state! Eager individuals
brought their certification packets with them to the
session, as well as the baby boomer session, and the
other presentations were equally well received.
These
are simply two examples of supportive activity associations,
led by certified activity professionals, that are out
there offering educational opportunities to their members
and non members alike to pursue their national credentials
or to gain additional knowledge, network with their
peers etc.
Many
states have conferences and workshops - remember to
post the upcoming educational opportunities on the NCCAP
bulletin board at www.nccap.org so others
may attend!
Looking
forward to attending New York, California, and South
Carolina conferences in early 2007.
Previously
we mentioned COAP-NC and KADA (KS association) and what
they are doing to assist activity professionals in their
professional goals of becoming nationally certified,
now IAAP and NJAPA. Texas is also promoting national
certification with the assistance of certified member
Pam Sanders, who assisted NCCAP with a recent mailing
to the Consortium members. We encourage other associations
to write and tell us what your state is doing to assist
your members in becoming NCCAP certified!
This
will give us the chance to post the information and
in turn assist in informing others of what is available,
as many are still in need of documentation updates and
professional continuing education hours. NN
