Beverly Morris
Scholarship Updateby
Pat Barnes, ADC, CTRS
Treasurer, NCCAP
Did you know that NCCAP has
a drawing at each conference to provide
one night's free lodging at the next
year's conference? We also award a
continuing education scholarship for the
NAAP Convention that can also be used for
your state conferences. This scholarship
is relatively new and was created in
honor of Beverly Morris, the first
certified member of NCCAP, who passed
away in 1997.
The board now is proposing a
method for members to contribute to this
scholarship when each member renews her
or his certification.
Many times people
miscalculate the amount due when filling
out their application for
recertification. As a result,
reimbursement checks for $5 or $10 are
frequently written by NCCAP. By the time
the office staff has explained to the
member the actual amount due and how to
calculate that amount there has been at
least one long distance telephone call in
addition to the actual time of the
conversation. This is costly and time
consuming. So the board is proposing that
amounts of $10 or less be automatically
be deposited to the scholarship account.
Also, if you would like to
contribute to the scholarship fund, a
check box will be placed on the
application form in the near future.
This opportunity is seen as
a great way for each of us to support the
profession in a small way, and in a way
that will assist someone in furthering
her/his competency through attending
educational sessions at the conference.
For all new candidates who
have miscalculated the amount due by $10
or less, the money will automatically be
deposited into the scholarship fund. As
support of this decision, again, there
are generally long distance telephone
calls made by the office staff to assist
the candidate with the application
process. There will be a statement to
this effect included with the
application.
As the scholarship fund
grows, so will the number of scholarships
awarded. So the end result is a direct
benefit to the membership of NCCAP. NN
