Christabel Smith’s career has focused on educating activity and healthcare professionals, in the areas of memory care, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, mental and behavioral health issues, intellectual developmental disabilities, and programming. She also is a frequent speaker on more business-oriented topics within the healthcare industry, such as leadership, wellness, customer service, and marketing.

Currently Christabel provides consulting services and conducts trainings/presentations through her own company, C. Smith Consulting, as well as has been working for various nursing, rehabilitation, and senior living organizations for over 20 years.  She is a NCCAP MEPAP Licensed Instructor, NCCDP Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer, Certified Dementia Care Manager, Certified Dementia Practitioner, Certified Dementia Support Group Facilitator, and Remotivation Instructor/Facilitator.  Christabel has presented in-person and virtually to a wide range of audiences across the country, including the National Association of Activity Professionals (NAAP), Pennsylvania Activity Professional Association (PAPA), and Argentum Senior Living Executive Conference. Her passion for helping others has earned her accolades and recognition, including from what was known as CoWe-Best where she was invited to conduct an international webinar.  For the ABA In PA, she gave the awards speech for then State Representative Lynda Schlegel Culver, now State Senator Lynda Culver at the Pennsylvania State Capitol.  Ms. Smith has also been a panelist for NAAP’s National Conference on mental health representing skilled long-term care.

Ms. Smith serves on the board of Voice PA and National Association of Long-Term Care Volunteers (NALTCV), and on the Special Projects Committee for NAAP. She also is a member of several organizations, including National Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP), National Association of Activity Professionals (NAAP), National Certification Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP), Pennsylvania Activity Professional Association (PAPA) and ABA In PA.

As a Licensed Instructor, I am qualified to deliver the standardized curriculum for the Activity Professional Certification (APC) and Activity Director Certification (ADC.)

For over 30 years, NCCAP certification has been accepted for meeting the highest standard of CMS F680 and is the only certification accepted by NAAP for meeting the Professional Standards of Practice to be an Activity Professional.

The standardized curriculum is infused with the person-centered principles of the Pioneer Network as well as the Alzheimer’s Association Dementia Care Practice Recommendations. It is reviewed and updated regularly by an independent Clinical and Curriculum Advisory Board of geriatric experts and long-term care practitioners.

Like all Allied Healthcare credentials, NCCAP certification is based on a formal course of study, the standardized curriculum, and an independent final exam. NCCAP certification ensures you are competent to deliver person-centered care and life-enriching activity programs to enhance physical, cognitive and psychosocial well-being.
